Whether you like your martini shaken or stirred; garnished with apples, chocolate chips or even edible flowers, every possible concoction can be mixed up right in front of you at downtown’s Martini Ranch.
Purists may want to start with a classic: gin or vodka with a hint of vermouth. For something a little more exciting, just ask one of the friendly bartenders. The martini list boasts more than 50 choices.
The weekday happy hour (5-8p.m., Tuesday through Thursday and 4-8 on Fridays) attracts young professionals, who go for the $5 martinis and free appetizers from nearby Alex’s Brown Bag Deli. Enjoy live entertainment every Friday from 6-9pm.
A huge patio and several plasma TVs dominate the lower level. Plush padded walls, couches and loveseats adorn the upstairs lounge and provide the perfect perch for people-watching, UFC fights or any sporting event.
Although best known for its trademark Appletini, a mouth-watering mix of vodka, Apple Pucker and sweet ‘n’ sour, there are plenty more specialty martinis on the menu. Get flirty with the French Kiss martini, a light, pretty-in-pink mix of vodka, Chambord and pineapple juice that would make the “Sex and the City” girls proud. If beer is more your passion, try one of your favorites from all over the world.
The adjoining Shaker Room Dance Lounge opens at 9 p.m. Dimly lit with classic chandeliers and a fabulous matrix plasma display system, the lounge combines a relaxing atmosphere with a high energy night club. Displaying artwork from local talents, the club attracts 20-somethings who get down to the latest popular sounds and lounge in the comfy VIP room.
If you’ve had enough dancing, head back to Martini Ranch for shaking and stirring late into the night.
